What Makes A Champion?

Have you ever wondered why people get involved in their community? Have you ever wanted to be more involved in yours? Some people, like Dr. Michel Pâquet, run marathons to rally commitment to organ donation. Others knock on doors to raise funds, one dollar at a time. Both are champions and more are needed, every year, by The Kidney Foundation of Canada.

“You don’t have to have kidney disease to know the value of this community-led effort,” says Susan Storey, Senior Director of Development for The Kidney Foundation of Canada. Just ask Ms. Grenier. She’s been knocking on doors and making a difference for over five years. Does she have kidney disease? No. Has anyone she knows been personally affected? No. But she knows that kidney disease does not discriminate. “It could affect those close to me,” she notes.

The Limitations of Canadian Pardons

If you are looking to get a pardon for your criminal offence(s) in Canada, you may wish to know some of the limitations associated with pardons.

Entering the United States

The most important limitation of pardons you ought to be aware of is that a pardon will not clear your entry into any country that is already aware of your criminal record. The United States in particular does not recognize the Canadian Pardon. If you have been denied entry to the United States because of your criminal record, or if the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency is otherwise aware of your criminal record, they will not recognize your Canadian pardon.

In order to regain entry to the U.S. after being denied or deported from that country, you will require a U.S. Entry Waiver. The entry waiver, alternatively known as an I-192 Application for Advanced Permission to Enter as a Nonimmigrant, is a legal document obtained from the US CBP which clears you to enter the United States for a period of up to five years.
